Smart Design worked with a new market player - edjy, to reinvent the nail clipper. Since it’s invention in 1875, the nail clipper has remained fairly unchanged, pinching and squeezing the nails until they shatter. We worked with the edjy team to define the “nail cutter,” a more ergonomic, sharper cutting tool for better nail health.
-
Compact design
This minimal, directional design guides the user on how to interact with the product, as well as keeping a slim profile for easy storage.
-
Softened touchpoints
The faded surface indentations guide the user on hand placement, as well as create a simple clean gesture.
-
Simplified construction
Comprised of two glass filled nylon elements, a bent steel blade, and intentionally detailed pins, the simple construction brings about an elegant and functional experience.
-
Custom pin detailing
Subtle detailing on the pin and blade helps to highlight the pivot point, as well as bring a sophisticated brand detail.
-
Integrated Sheath
A thin sheath encloses the body of the cutter, protects the sharpness of the blade, and creates a compact storage solution.
-
A vessel for color
Traditional nail clippers are largely made in a single color and material, by making the body from glass-filled nylon we open up a range of color and finish opportunities.
